This time we have a small tutorial to help you change Joomla admin language of your Joomla admin panel. Remember that you can have multiple languages installed and change the settings per user.

  • FIRST STEP:  Login to your Joomla admin area, then choose Extensions -> Language Manager to open the list of languages that you have installed before, you will see all available languages.

  • SECOND STEP:   On a default installation, you should only see English. If you want to add more translations, click Install Language button in the top, left part of the page.

A list of the available translations will be shown. Your Joomla app will get that from the official Joomla Extensions Directory, which means those packages are safe and you can use them without problem. Because Joomla is a open source application, those translations are community driven, so that you may see notices that they are incomplete and some of them might really be.

  • THIRD STEP:   Select a language you want and click Install to proceed. As an example for this tutorial, we will change the language to Bulgarian.

New language pack will be installed into your application in few seconds. Your TO DO list now is only “make it default for the part of the website you want to” left.

  • FORTH STEP: Select the Installed – Administrator tab from the left column to change the admin area language, then click at “Star Icon” button – next to the language you want to set to default (in our case is Bulgarian).
